    QuickCal iPhone App Video Review

Todays Review for a handy little iOS app called QuickCal

QuickCal for the iPhone makes adding entries in to ical as easy as typing in the event title, day or date and time and thats it ! quick cal will take whatever text you type and turn it into relevant event information. I will say It can take a little bit to get used to, but it ‘s actually much faster and more efficient than filling out location, time, and date fields manually

    Syncing

QuickCal syncs directly with the iPhone ‘s own calendar database. That means that everything is local, if you are a mobile me user you will find that the data will sync across all devices in seconds.
If you are a Google user … The app will also sync with Google over Exchange, which means that all of your local calendar data is instantly pushed to Google servers, so using QuickCal is a lot like having a native Google Calendar app.

    Scheduling events

to enter a new event you simply type the details in to the text field at the top of the screen, all you need to do is tap on it, enter your event details, and press Done. The text field recognizes days, dates, times, duration, and locations, aside from the actual name of the event. QuickCal even parses all your text live, (which appears in the boxes below the text field.so you don’t need to press enter to check whether or not the app has interpreted your data correctly.
If you’re not familiar with how to enter text into a system like this, the developer has included a “Help” tab in QuickCal with examples of exactly how to enter event information. The Help tab also explains smart alarms, which activate different default alarms based on how far in the future you create an event (e.g. 30 minutes for events within a week, one day for events within a month, etc.). examples of exactly how to enter event information. The Help tab also explains smart alarms, which activate different default alarms based on how far in the future you create an event (e.g. 30 minutes for events within a week, one day for events within a month, etc.).

    Viewing events

QuickCal is really meant for scheduling, but it does show you a relatively compact list of upcoming events on the main screen, just below the text field. Tapping on an event brings up an event overview exactly like the one in Calendar.app …you will find 3 views for your entries Today, List and Month. However I find that i use the app simply for data entry and choose to view my appointments via my iCal App.

    Settings

Complete setting page where you can go in and customize QuickCal to your personal liking. However i have found it to work just fine using the default settings.

You can get Quick Cal in the iOS App store for .99Cents!

Dropbox social style sharing via FrenzyApp for your Menu Bar

    DropBox Just Got Better!

I have been using Dropbox for quite awhile. Just about every 3rd party app developer is using it for syncing. It works perfect between your Mac and iOS devices!

Well, the web syncing app just got a little bit better with "Frenzy" The Dropbox powered social network.

Frenzy allows you to share files, links and messages with your friends using Dropbox. It's a file based social network that leverages the shared folders feature of Dropbox to bring you a Twitter like stream of feed items.

I have been playing around with the Beta version for a couple days now and it really works well. Very fast way to share quick bits of information. The app simply lives in your menu bar, you click on the icon and down drops a small window. Here you can type a note, share a pic, or drag in a link. Click the share button and of it goes to your pre set up Dropbox folder.

Once you download the app you will need to set up a few system preferences, including which "Shared Folders" you want to sync with. It's That easy.

You can download a free, unrestricted beta of Frenzy from http://frenzyapp.com

YMS Blog Cast - Photo Transfer App

It goes without saying I am an "Apple Fan Boy" I have just about every Apple device that has been created ! However I find it so frustrating that all of our iOS Devices have to Sync via iTunes. Wait let me re phrase that. There must be a better way to handle the Syncing of Documents, including pictures.

The iPhone 4 has become my go to camera these days. How does the old saying go "The best camera is the one you have when you need to take a picture". With that said you would think Apple would make it a bit easier to share these photos with your other devices. Currently Apple wants you to hook up a wire sync it to your computer, then un hook your iPhone and hook up your iPad and sync that. Just to get a photo? I'll Pass.

So todays blog cast topic is an app that makes this photo syncing a breeze. "Photo Transfer" $2.99 in the iOS App store does just that transfers your photos with out a wire. Sync to your iPad, Laptop, desktop, or even a friends device. Its fast, reliable and easy!

AudioMark - Podcast Book Mark App for the iPhone

I have Been Waiting for an App like this forever! AudioMark is a Podcast Bookmarking App That Works!! You know your listening to an hour long show and 2 or 3 times durning the show you hear something that really applies to you. Then later you have to go back and try and find the episode is was on. Then even harder skim over the whole show trying to find that story.

Well AudioMark solves this for you By allowing you to simply tap a "Save" Button when you want to BookMark a part of the Show! You can create as many BookMarks as you wish in each show, and its easy to add text for a title and notes to remind you what the topic was!

All your podcasts come into AudioMark thru your iPod App so all your Shows are there.

We Have created our 1st "YMS Video Blog" to help show you how the app works. Check out the Video Blog at bottom of this post!

Here is the info from the Developer Site…

Create notes while listening to your iPod App. Save and share your notes on-line. Keep an automatic history of your listening. Extend the earphone button and overcome issues it may have.

Start any title using AudioMark or iPod Apps and switch back and forth between them (start video on iPod App and switch to AudioMark for a listen-only mode, which unlike iPod can be run in the background.)

Use AudioMark to write down that last immortal sentence of an Audiobook. Take notes while listening to a lecture. Mark key events of a live performance recording. Email a podcaster as you listen to her podcast and at the same time twit and write on your facebook wall.

Each note records the playback time at which the bookmark was created in addition to information on the title and your personal message. You can save the note on Evernote*, email it to yourself and friends, and/or post on Twitter and/or Facebook.

While listening to a title, you will see all your bookmarks for that title sorted according to playback time. Selecting a bookmark allows you to jump to the playback time at which it was created or to edit its content.

The notes are stored in your App and are backed-up through iTune’s sync. They are organized into tracks and albums and can be edited or used to replay content as long as the track is in iPod’s library. This allows you to manage listening to multiple Audiobooks or to recover your last location in case iTunes decides to erase this crucial fact for you. In addition, you can email all notes from one track or from an entire album and use the list as a textual time line of the program you where listening to. The playtime information can be handy in timing a recording of a live performance.

AudioMark keeps a history of every pause and play you made. This journal (which can also be erased) can be used to retrieve tracks and playback time without any additional work at the time of your listening. For example, while listening and without touching your device, use the iPhone’s earphone switch to make a momentary pause and only at a latter time, in your own comfort, locate the pause-record, using the date and time-of-day at which it was made.

Unlike proprietary audio Apps (such as Audible), the earphone switch works. However, a faulty earphone switch can disrupt your listening considerably, this is especially true while jogging. To partially overcome this problem, you can turn an option in AudioMark to cancel commands made by the earphone switch, this is not a complete solution, but it will keep you running until your next visit to the genius bar

AudioMark has a rewind button that allows you to play the last 10 to 60 seconds according to your own configuration. As an additional “extra earphone button” you can shake your device to perform the rewind.

If you have an earphone without a switch, you can configure AudioMark to toggle between pause and play whenever you shake your device. This feature works as long as AudioMark is running (not in the background). If the screen times-out and turns dark you need to press the On button before shaking the device, but there is no need to swipe the unlock button.
